Is looking like I’ll be in SZ Nov 11-14. Lots of moving parts but this seems likely right now.
I have Kawaiicon (NZ’s defcon equivalent) finishing on the 8th but 11-14th is doable (I’d probably stay longer)
Glad to hear you’re doing well. Would be great to overlap.
Time flies. I hope everyone has had a good summer/winter so far. It looks like Maker Faire is now officially scheduled for November 15-16 and KiCon Asia for November 13-15 in Shenzhen. In previous years, the Seeed Studio events have been announced in October.
I’m about 80% prepared to be able to book a trip for November (technically just got 8 vaccines in a week), but I have a few more things to work out. Is anyone else still looking at going?
I am, maybe for a shorter trip than I planned.
I’m keen, it will have to be after roughly Nov 10th, but apart from that I’m easy about dates
- Paul
I’m confirmed for Dec 12-18, can’t make November unfortunately.
OK, I’ve booked 3 weeks from late Nov until about Dec 18th - see you there, I’ll probably spend a week across the border in HKG - Paul
The plans for Maker Faire fell through. Spent a month at a data center for work instead.
I have now bought tickets for December 4th to December 18th in Shenzhen. Staying to sleep in Beijing before and after, making it an 8-9 plus 3-4 hour flight instead of 13-14+ hours in one go. We’ll see how that works out
.
Booked the plaza for one week. Might try something new or book the same hotel as Tom for the other. I will do some research. Feel free to add me on WeChat; same ID as username here.
If anyone has some time in HK and is willing to buy a cross-border SIM card at 7-Eleven, I’d be interested in one. The China Telecom Greater Bay Area Data Prepaid SIM Card looks good; the China Telecom Easy+ Prepaid SIM could also be okay.
You can usually get a cross boarder sim at shengshui, the stop before shenzhen.
So I’m still planning on coming, I have 2 weeks - I want to spend some time in HKG and some in Shenzhen - I have roughly Nov 30 to Dec 17th to split up - what dates will other people be in Shenzhen?
I’m going to Shenzhen December 4 - 18. Talked to Tom on Discord a week ago and he is still going December 12 - 17 or 18, unsure which of those days he is leaving. We talked about going to Depu industrial market on December 12 if you are interested in going.
Thanks, that helps my figure out my days, I’ve locked in the 8th→17th on the Shenzhen side of the border
@Taniwha @afishcalledsimon woot! Good times ahead.
Simon, I leave from HKG at 1am on the 18th. I’m not really sure whether that is the 17th or the 18th either ![]()
I arrive late on the 11th, planning to stay at the hotel in the Ferry Terminal for 1 night. That puts me in a good place for Depu and perhaps Yihua on the 12th. Am thinking Depu first since it’s a bit of an effort to get to, Yihua is a short walk from Houting station on line 11. Depu is 30 mins walk or a short bus ride from Ma-an Hill station on line 11.
I’m going be in HK 5-8 Dec. I’ll keep an eye open.
(full trip is HK 5-8, Malaysia 8-11, SZ 11-18).
The price on the HQB Plaza has dropped so I’m switching to it for the whole trip. Still would like to travel out to Yihua/Depu on the 12th if that suits you.
@Taniwha have you made any plans? Not sure if you met Paul from WA, he’s moved his trip out to 2026 unfortunately.
Nice. I have booked another week at the plaza now. The 12th works for me. Other dates too, but might as well go right away.
I’m also staying at the Plaza, lured by the possibility of a soft bed - arriving 8th-17th, I’ll also be in Kowloon from this Sat until the 8th, staying in a hole-in-the-wall hotel if you want to get together there
my WeChatID for those who don’t already have it is @Paul-Taniwha
Made it to Beijing. Flying to Shenzhen tomorrow. Used the online arrival card filling. Can recommend.
I’m in Hong Kong for the rest of the week, I’ll cross over on Monday
Where’s the online card? (I looked for one and didn’t find it)
