How to use the auxiliary pins on BP5XL / BP6?

How do I use the auxiliary pins on the Bus Pirate 6? They don’t show up in PulseView, so I can’t use them for logic analysis which was my primary use-case. If they’re addressable as general I/O, I haven’t discovered how to do this (tried “a 8” etc., invalid pin).

I’m sure there’s a way to use them, so please enlighten a noob.

Hey @Joe24 ,

What do you mean by aux pins? General use pins or something else? Cam you please describe your use case?

The bus pirate 6 update gave a second set of eyes on the main IO pins, but doesn’t have more pins.

The auxiliary connector is internally connected to the same IO0-7 then? In other words, pins 1 of both aux and main connectors are in parallel, both pins 2 are in parallel, both pins 3, etc.?

Edit: Yes the IO pins on both connectors are indeed in parallel. Except the AUX connector has only 9 pins, so it doesn’t have a Vout pin. Pins 1-8 are IO0-7, and pin 9 is GND.

Hmmm. I see… I was under the impression that the Auxiliary connector was an extra independent set of 8 I/O pins.

So sorry for that. The aux connector is a double connection for external equipment like a logic analyzer.

Let me know if you want a refund.

Not to worry. Thanks for the clarification.

Ian, this is an exellent example of why I donate my time and energy to this project. The offer of a refund because of a pre-purchase misunderstanding … not many places are so customer-focused.

The Bus Pirate is for fun, I don’t want people stuck with something they’re unhappy with.

I bought mine for fun, but after using it I also bought a few on the corporate dime for our pentest labs.
